With the ESL programme, you can gain the IT security skills that are essential in a business-oriented organisation. Among other things, you will work on how, as a manager, you can create value for the rest of the business through information security.
Information security programme
A programme for managers
The growing threat from cybercrime, such as ransomware, DDoS attacks, APT and other malware, means that companies now, more than ever, must take responsibility for information security at management level. At the same time, there is an ever-increasing demand for access to all data on all devices 24/7/365, in a world where IT continues to become more and more critical and a clear business differentiator. In addition, there are industry and regulatory requirements, e.g. GDPR, DORA and NIS2.
As a certified Information Security Manager, you will gain the skills that are essential in a business-oriented organisation. You will work on how, as a manager, you can create value for the rest of the business through information security.

After the third module, Compliance, you will be given a written exam assignment, which must be passed and which you must defend at the oral exam.
Programme modules:
Governance
Information security can be difficult to communicate in a busy
organisation, where there is not always the necessary focus on information security. You will therefore be trained in communicating information security to executive management. You will gain knowledge and work with tools that enable you to lead information security in a company. You will gain insight into management aspects, including establishing a
management system, assessing and measuring the company’s maturity and security level. In addition, you will be trained in complex issues.
Date: 16–19 November 2026
Risk
You will gain knowledge and training in carrying out risk assessments and preparing contingency plans, as well as conducting tests.
Through the teaching, you will become familiar with relevant international standards, and with a main focus on ISO standards you will see examples of practical application.
You will prepare vulnerability and impact assessments, work with managing identified risks and set the security level. You will be trained in presenting a risk assessment to a larger forum.
Date: 18–21 January 2027
Compliance
Here you will gain theoretical knowledge of national and international legislation, norms and standards relevant to information security. You will work on defining security objectives, policies, guidelines and controls based on a specific case. There will be presentations from experienced IT security managers, providing practical examples.
Date: 22–25 March 2027
Exam
At the exam, you must defend your overall written assignment before an examiner panel appointed by the ESL Association’s Education Committee.
